The year 2022 has ended and, with that in mind, there is an opportunity to evaluate how technology has evolved over those 365 days. There were many possibilities for advancement, but did all trends prove themselves to be useful?
NFTs, Metaverse, 5G, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things were promising concepts that generated much buzz and debate during the year. In some cases, there was a lot of skepticism about their purpose, but many of them progressed and were deemed beneficial.
Therefore, roll up your sleeves and tag along with our analysis of how each of these promising trends behaved during the past year. We welcome you all to LogAp’s 2022 Technology Landscape Retrospective.
Enjoy!

NFTs
NFTs are our first highlight in the 2022 technology landscape retrospective.
Having enjoyed a strong uprise at the end of 2021, the whole NFT proposition seemed to lose its momentum just as fast; becoming virtually forgotten for the remainder of 2022.
Within celebrity circles, NFTs were a very popular subject. Footballer Neymar Jr. was amongst those famous figures who decided to place their bets on the idea, buying NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection for more than 6 million Brazilian reais, and later on seeing their value deteriorate more than 85% in less than a year.
Even though they might entertain some interesting applications, NFTs have been mostly a superficial trending topic, without much practicality in the day to day. From “works of art” to computer games, it is a certainty that non-fungible tokens will have to reinvent themselves so they can resurface and regain any relevance in the near future.

The Metaverse
The Metaverse first seriously emerged in the tech landscape as a proposition by the company Meta, owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and made a lot of noise in the market.
With a new proposal to transform the virtual world experience by offering unique, state of the art interaction possibilities, the Meta group of companies aims to bring access to high technology to the entire planet — with the support of major global brands such as Nike, Balenciaga, telecommunication conglomerate TIM and Brazilian fashion retailer Lojas Renner.
Moreover (and unlike NFTs, which we have publicly witnessed lose a lot of their strength in 2022), the Metaverse still remains a popular and exciting subject; currently under construction and standing a good chance of succeeding in the medium to long term.

5G
Looking at the 2022 technology landscape retrospective, we now highlight 5G as one of the most promising options in terms of adoption potential.
Implemented in South Korea since 2021, 5G technology has proven to be a natural expected chosen replacement for today’s networks and even more than that: it has the difficult mission of positively impacting the way we communicate and interact on the internet.
This is because 5G technology promises to solve, once and for all, many network speed and latency barriers. Thus, smart devices such as Alexa, Siri and voice assistants, as well as IoT devices, will be able to operate without any restrictions.
We at LogAp look forward to seeing how 5G will unfold.

Blockchain
Despite the sharp drop in cryptocurrencies in 2021 and 2022, Blockchain technology still firmly stands its ground, and with its value proposition virtually intact.
As its application goes far beyond virtual currencies such as Bitcoin and Ether, Blockchain remains a great alternative to revolutionize the logistics, financial and even construction sectors.
Therefore, 2022 was a very special year for this technology, despite the crypto world not having contributed much, given the fact that blockchain projects continue to attract the interest of large companies and developers alike.

Artificial Intelligence
Year after year, Artificial Intelligence keeps up as a promise in the area of technology. However, 2022 marks the period where it gained much momentum due to the significant advances it made.
The most recent of these launchings, ChatGPT, showed the whole world the power of A.I. in the discovery and creation of text content —but it certainly wasn’t the only one. ChatGPT is based on GPT-3, an autoregressive language model that uses deep learning to produce natural-feel texts, as if they were written by humans.
On that basis, one of the top predictions and controversies involving AI use revolve around the fact that GPT-3 is likely to replace software developers someday in the near future, a premise that only time will be able to prove whether (or when) it will come to fruition or not.
We’ve also seen the rise of tools that create art digitally and apps which rely on this feature capability so as to provide a unique extra functionality to their users. Therefore, we can finally admit that – as previously predicted – Artificial Intelligence, it seems, has at last made a lot of noise in and outside the technology market.

IoT
Finally, we have the Internet of Things continuing its growth saga and becoming quite popular in the year that just ended. It’s true that much of its adoption is within corporate businesses, where IoT has its best utilization levels, but end users can also benefit greatly, as we can see in examples such as smart TVs, interactive, inter and multi connected digital gadgets, etc.
And this will be made even more possible with the vast reach and broad adoption of 5G, which will allow fast and accurate communication between devices. That is, using sensors, voice assistants and electronics in general will be something natural with this combination between IoT and 5G.
The (r)evolution is just beginning
With the exception of NFTs and the Metaverse, which are still more distant promises from the reality of the masses, the other technologies performed well throughout last year, as we could see in our 2022 technology landscape retrospective.
Thus, we understand that 2023 will be a year of even more growth and consolidation than we have brought here so far, which we also believe will result in a great evolution for all humanity to enjoy.
Or would it be a better term to call it revolution?
We cannot wait to experience what the future holds. See you next time!
